Partly written during the universal “low season” of the pandemic and a time of personal loss and grief, ghosts are everywhere on KAREN CECILIE CÆSAR’s debut album.

Even the instruments are imbued with a storied past: most of them date back to the 1960s which lends the album a dusty, melancholic texture. Her family’s pedal organ, an heirloom that hasn’t been repaired since 1939, opens the album with an insistent and haunting presence.
